Remember, business is ultimately always conducted between people. “Business to Business” companies often forget that they are not selling to Microsoft or IBM, they are, in fact, selling to the people at Microsoft and IBM. Makes sense, right?

Well, yes and no. While the above situation is true, it also isn’t.

B2B and B2C have one huge similarity as we alluded to earlier: personal interactions, aka relationships. Business, especially those dealing in sales, is conducted based on a sort of professional trust. This has never been as true as it is in today’s economy.

With profit margins as tight as they have ever been, businesses can’t survive a bad purchase. So they rely heavily on interpersonal interactions. Before a company can buy from your company, they have to trust YOU. This is where the line begins to blur. Yes, you are a person and not a corporation, but you are a representative of your business. So in essence, your client is doing business with you AND your company (and vice versa), making the sale both B2B and B2C.

So don’t get too caught up in outdated labels. Certainly, broad terms like B2B and B2C have their place, but at the end of the day, business is still conducted between living, breathing people.
